Just a short distance from the city and in minutes you can find yourself in a campground surrounded by acres of Niagara's outdoors.

On clear summer nights, these peaceful rural resorts provide a starry retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

If you prefer the stars you'll find listings here and in the other Niagara Communities Outdoor Activities facilities listings.

Plus find services, suppliers and locations on outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, bird watching, photography and such.

Fishing
Drop anchor, cast your line and have some fishing or other outdoor fun. Discover Niagara's fishing locations and other outdoor activities, for the real outdoors in you.

Niagara is a fishing paradise, with over 175 miles (121 km) of shoreline on Lake Erie, Lake Ontario and the Niagara River also providing many occasions for great photos.

Lake Ontario is teaming with salmon and trout, while lake Erie's warmer water favour perch, small mouth bass and pickerel.

Popular spots for shore fishing include Port Dalhousie, St.Catharines Marina, Jordon Harbour, the Niagara River at Queenston, and at the Niagara Whirlpool - the world's largest fishing hole!

In winter, ice fishing is popular on Martindale Pond (St.Catharines), Gravelly Bay (Port Colborne) and Jordon Harbour (Lincoln).

Common catches include bass, perch and crappies.

The CanAm Walleye Challenge in Fort Erie and the St.Catharines Salmon Derby draw hundreds of anglers who complete for big cash prizes and merchandise.

A June Catfish Derby appeals to the smaller fry.

A fishing license is usually required to fish in Ontario, available through local fish and tackle shops and Canadian Tire stores.
